Patient Information

What to Expect Before, During & After Your Procedure

Please see the below overview of what to expect during your visit at Texas Endoscopy. Due to safety, privacy and infection control issues, please be aware that children will not be allowed past the waiting room at any time.

Parking & Arrival - Parking is convenient at the center. You will be greeted at the reception desk and your medical record will begin with assembling the appropriate background information.

Before the Procedure - A nurse will escort you to the pre-procedure area, where you will change and a nursing assessment will be performed. Due to HIPAA privacy regulations, family members may not accompany you at this time. They may join you in the recovery area after your Procedure. You will be asked to sign consent forms for the procedure(s) scheduled. An intravenous line will be started, which will be used to administer anesthesia. Your Physician and anesthesia provider will speak with you during this time.

The Procedure Room - You will be brought by stretcher to the procedure room where EKG, oxygen and pulse monitors will be connected. For your procedure, you will be asked to lie on your left side.

Anesthesia - You will be given anesthesia that will sedate you during your procedure, and your anesthesia provider will monitor your vital signs during your procedure.

After The Procedure - Afterwards you will be monitored by nurses and given a beverage. Your Physician will speak with you and the person you designated on your HIPAA Form to explain preliminary results of your procedure. Frequently, patients do not remember the conversation with the Physician related to the anesthesia. If biopsies or tissue samples were obtained, it generally takes 7-10 days for the results to be reported to your physician’s office. You should contact your physician’s office for questions regarding your pathology reports. Due to safety, privacy and infection control issues, children will not be allowed in the post-operative area. Children should not be left alone in the waiting area, without adult supervision. Staff are not available to watch your children.

Transportation - You will need a responsible party to drive you home after the procedure. Texas Endoscopy cannot endorse patients driving under the influence of narcotics up to twelve hours after their administration. You may feel okay to drive, however your reflexes and thought processes will be altered. Also, Texas Endoscopy will not release patients to taxis or other means of public transportation, per State Regulation.

Next Business Day - A member of the nursing staff will phone you a day or so after the procedure to ensure all is satisfactory and to address any concerns.

If you have any questions about your visit, feel free to call us directly at (972) 473-9900.
